The Quiet Things is an upcoming narrative game by Silver Script Games that tells an autobiographical story about studio founder Alyx Jones\u2019 experiences with mental health issues and childhood abuse and trauma. It was supposed to be featured during tonight\u2019s BAFTA Game Awards, but according to Jones, the trailer was removed from the showcase at the last minute due to its content.<\/p>\n

In a LinkedIn<\/a> post, Jones says that she was informed via phone call the night before the show that the Quiet Things trailer that had been cut for the ceremony was pulled because the organizers said \u201cthere wasn\u2019t enough time to put the appropriate warnings in place for the audience.\u201d Jones said that when she offered to make further changes she was \u201cignored.\u201d<\/p>\n

What has upset me so much is not just the decision, but how this happens to me over and over, doors close because the subject matter might upset people or make them uncomfortable. I\u2019ve stayed quiet to maintain relationships. I\u2019ve taken the hits. I\u2019ve tried not to burn bridges.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sick of it.<\/p>\n

The Quiet Things is deeply personal to me. It\u2019s my story. It\u2019s about trauma, abuse, survival, and giving survivors a voice. It\u2019s about people being shut down and silenced, and what that does to them. So there is something deeply painful about reliving that again now.<\/p>\n

Art should make people feel something.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Update: 4\/17\/26, 3:35 p.m. ET:\u00a0In a statement to\u00a0Kotaku, BAFTA said the decision to remove\u00a0The Quiet Things\u2018 trailer was made \u201cin consideration of [its] guests,\u201d and that it supports games that tackle \u201cdifficult subjects.\u201d<\/p>\n

We made a compliance decision not to show a trailer of an unreleased game that contains themes that may be a trigger for some, in consideration of our guests as we were not in a position to sufficiently warn them.
