It’s got to happen ASAP.

Liverpool must complete a deal for Anthony Gordon ASAP if they’re going to get it done. The Telegraph reports that the Scouser is open to leaving Newcastle United this summer.

                            Article continues under the video

But more than that, he’d ‘jump at the chance’ to move to Liverpool. Gordon is a boyhood fan and nearly joined the club back in 2024.

Newcastle are in a position where they need to sell a major player to fund a rebuild. Their disastrous transfer window in 2025 has cost them dearly and now it’s time for something of a reset.

Gordon is one of the players who could depart to fund it all. However, he’s not the only one.

The Telegraph has previously reported that Sandro Tonali is another who could leave for near £100m. Liverpool, then, would need to snap up Gordon for the expected £80m price-tag before anyone seals a deal for Tonali.

There’s plenty of interest in the Italian, too, and Liverpool lose their leverage over Newcastle for Gordon if the midfielder moves first. Newcastle, after all, will want to avoid losing two key players.

It’s a race against time, then. Liverpool need a left-winger, Gordon wants to join, and Newcastle need an early sale. No need to hesitate.

            Anthony Gordon: Situation Summary

Champions League Specialist and Domestic Struggles

As of 16 April 2026, Anthony Gordon’s season has been one of starkly contrasting fortunes. While he has found goals harder to come by in the Premier League—recording six goals and two assists in 26 appearances—he has been prolific on the European stage. Gordon has netted 10 goals in 12 Champions League matches, a tally that has cemented his reputation as a big-game player despite Newcastle United’s general decline to 12th in the table. His high-intensity style remains a core component of Eddie Howe’s tactical setup, though he was recently criticised by sections of the Tyneside support following a subdued performance against Crystal Palace.

Summer Transfer Saga and Bayern Interest

The transfer narrative surrounding Gordon has intensified significantly in mid-April. Reports on 14 April 2026 revealed that Bayern Munich have made Gordon a priority target for the summer window, with manager Vincent Kompany reportedly a “huge admirer” of the winger’s versatility. Arsenal also remain firmly in the race, viewing him as a potential replacement for Gabriel Martinelli. Although Gordon’s contract at St James’ Park runs until June 2030, Newcastle are reportedly open to “listening to offers” exceeding £75 million to fund a necessary squad rebuild. Gordon is said to be eager to resolve his future before the 2026 World Cup kicks off in June to ensure he is fully focused on his role within Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

Liverpool are in a race against time to complete their major summer transfer.
