Just a few years ago, Sasha, her brother Dutch and daughter Shelby were nameless longhorn cattle living on a ranch in Texas, where they were considered mere commodities \u2014 not souls to be cherished.<\/p>\n

But then something changed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe cattle rancher and his wife, after a lifetime of cattle ranching, went vegan,\u201d Alli, cofounder of The Zend: Final Farm & Sanctuary<\/a>, based in Justin, Texas, told The Dodo. \u201cThey decided to send their whole herd to sanctuary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alli took in Shelby, Dutch and Sasha, who gave birth shortly after to a calf named Duncan. There, they joined The Zend\u2019s nearly 100 other rescued farm animals, and their unique personalities began to shine through.<\/p>\n

\u201cRescuing this little family has been so special. We interact and love on them every day,\u201d Alli said. \u201cThey\u2019re just big babies who love getting their chins scratched and rubbed on.\u201d<\/p>\n

The four rescued longhorns now spend their days peacefully grazing in the sanctuary\u2019s large field. Their new lives, however, aren\u2019t without moments of pure excitement.<\/p>\n

From their field, the family of longhorns can see when the garbage truck arrives to empty the sanctuary\u2019s trash.<\/p>\n

And they’ve all grown to love it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey usually run and buck alongside the garbage truck, and stare in curiosity while they empty the dumpsters,\u201d Alli said. \u201cThey are hilarious! Just giant field puppies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alli recently posted a video capturing the fun:<\/p>\n

Why exactly the family enjoys the garbage truck\u2019s arrival so much may never be known for sure. But they\u2019re not alone in looking forward to those days when they come.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe garbage men love watching them get all excited when they show up,\u201d Alli said.<\/p>\n
