A US<\/a> appeals court allowed President Donald \u2060Trump<\/a>\u2019s administration on \u2060Friday night to continue construction \u2060of a US$400 million ballroom on the site of the White House\u2019s demolished East Wing, setting a June hearing to review a Washington judge\u2019s order halting the project.<\/p>\n

An order by a three-judge \u200cpanel of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit put the lower court\u2019s preliminary injunction on hold for now, giving the panel time to consider the US Justice Department\u2019s request for a longer pause while the appeal is pending.<\/p>\n

The appeals court \u2060said it would hear arguments on June 5 on whether construction should be \u200cstopped during the appeal.<\/p>\n

The order did not address the merits of the underlying lawsuit, which challenges the Trump \u200cadministration\u2019s authority to build the ballroom.<\/p>\n

The National Trust for Historic Preservation, \u2060which filed the \u2060lawsuit last year, and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment \u200cafter business hours.<\/p>\n

Friday\u2019s ruling temporarily blocks a decision issued a day earlier by US District Judge \u200cRichard Leon \u200cin Washington, who said the ballroom project was unlawful without approval \u200cfrom the U.S. Congress.<\/p>\n
