(KVOA) – Although a little “camera shy,” Cinco the jaguar has been captured on camera once again in Southern Arizona, marking continued evidence of the big cat’s presence in established wildlife corridors.

The sighting reflects 15 years of monitoring by the University of Arizona Wild Cat Research and Conservation Center, which states that the locations where Cinco appears are not random but tied to water, prey and cover. The jaguar’s repeated use of these pathways demonstrates what researchers call “site fidelity,” a pattern supported by data collected across multiple jaguars over time.

According to the center, jaguars rely heavily on scent marking and revisiting key locations across the landscape. That behavior, paired with resilience, supports repeated use of the same pathways over time.

The center said a resident jaguar reflects biodiversity and ecosystem health across public lands, working ranches and connected landscapes. The monitoring is conducted year-round through community science efforts by the independently funded research center.

The cameras capture wildlife moments with help from community support.
