The Wimbledon Championships have produced some of the greatest matches in tennis history.<\/p>\n

The grass court Grand Slam has seen youngsters become icons and legends cement their legacies by succeeding inside the hallowed grounds of the All-England Club.<\/p>\n

It is not easy to master the slick and low bouncing grass courts, and very few players can say they have achieved that.<\/p>\n

But there is perhaps nothing more special in tennis than simply being able to say you competed on the Wimbledon<\/a> courts, and both John McEnroe<\/a> and Tim Henman<\/a> are able to say that.<\/p>\n

McEnroe and Henman<\/a> both have fond memories of playing at Wimbledon. Henman, 50, gave British fans plenty to cheer about as he reached the semi-finals at SW19 on four occasions between 1998 and 2002.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, McEnroe faced Bjorn Borg at Wimbledon<\/a> in a memorable final back in 1980, before going on to lift the title on three occasions.<\/p>\n

During the 6-Love-6 podcast on BBC Sounds<\/a>, both players shared their favourite match at Wimbledon that they competed in during their careers, and there are no surprises for guessing the American\u2019s choice.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I played Borg in the 1980 final. It turned out to be the match I am more proud of than any match I have ever played,\u201d McEnroe said.<\/p>\n

Choosing his favourite match at Wimbledon, Henman shared: \u201cJust because of what he went on to do, it was beating Federer here. He was only 14! It was four sets.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think with what he went on to achieve. That is the only result that my kids are vaguely interested in, they are like you beat Federer at Wimbledon, that\u2019s cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

During their careers, McEnroe and Henman did not compete against one another on the ATP Tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Henman turned pro in 1993, while McEnroe retired from singles competition in 1994, but continued playing doubles until 2006.<\/p>\n

The pair both enjoyed playing at Wimbledon and had varying degrees of success while doing so.<\/p>\n

Henman won 43 career matches at SW19 and lost 14, giving him a win percentage of 75% from 14 career appearances.<\/p>\n

McEnroe claimed 59 victories and lost 11 matches, which gives the former world number one a healthy win percentage of 84%.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Wimbledon Championships have produced some of the greatest matches in tennis history.
