{"id":591951,"date":"2026-04-18T15:21:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T15:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/591951\/"},"modified":"2026-04-18T15:21:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T15:21:12","slug":"appeals-court-allows-all-white-house-ballroom-construction-to-resume","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/591951\/","title":{"rendered":"Appeals court allows all White House ballroom construction to resume"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Construction of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-ballroom-detailed-plans-east-wing-renovation\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a ballroom and presidential bunker<\/a>\u00a0at the White House will continue for now, after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia granted an <a href=\"https:\/\/media.cadc.uscourts.gov\/orders\/docs\/2026\/04\/26-5123LDSN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">administrative stay<\/a> of an order earlier this week that blocked most above-ground construction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The next hearing in the case is set for June 5, according to the court&#8217;s briefing schedule, so construction will likely continue through at least then.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Judge Richard Leon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/judge-temporarily-blocks-construction-of-trumps-white-house-ballroom\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">temporarily blocked<\/a> construction of the ballroom in March. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia then\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/federal-appeals-court-white-house-ballroom-construction-lawsuit\/\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ordered him to reconsider<\/a>\u00a0the national security implications of halting the work. Leon clarified that work on an underground presidential bunker could continue, but said most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/federal-judge-blocks-above-ground-white-house-ballroom-construction\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">above-ground construction<\/a> must stop.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department filed an appeal in Leon&#8217;s ruling on Thursday, arguing Leon&#8217;s ruling &#8220;would imperil the President and national security and indefinitely leave a large hole beside the Executive Residence.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>President Trump blasted Leon&#8217;s decision on TruthSocial, calling him a &#8220;highly political Judge&#8221; making an &#8220;illegal overreach.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Ballroom is deeply important to our National Security, and no Judge can be allowed to stop this Historic and Militarily Imperative Project,&#8221; Mr. Trump wrote.
