\n\tFriday brought a slew of newcomers to the domestic box office, including Magnolia Pictures\u2019 \u201cNormal\u201d and \u201cLee Cronin\u2019s The Mummy\u201d from Warner Bros. and Atomic Monster. However, neither of them could usurp Universal\u2019s \u201cSuper Mario Galaxy Movie,\u201d which is looking to lead the box office for the third weekend in a row.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cLee Cronin\u2019s The Mummy\u201d placed third with $5.2 million on opening day from 3,304 North American theaters. The body-horror reimagining of Karl Freund\u2019s 1932 classic should earn about $12 million by Sunday.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cEvil Dead Rise\u201d filmmaker Cronin wrote and directed the film, which follows a journalist and his wife as they track down their daughter after an eight-year disappearance, only to discover that she has been corrupted by an ancient evil. Cast members include Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, Shylo Molina and Billie Roy.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cNormal\u201d landed at No. 7 with an estimated $1.06 million domestically from 2,060 theaters. It\u2019s expected to gross $2.4 million over its opening weekend, according to rival estimates.<\/p>\n
\n\tBob Odenkirk stars in \u201cNormal\u201d as a small-town sheriff who discovers a disturbing secret while investigating a local bank heist. He also co-wrote the script with Derek Kolstad. Other cast members include. Ryan Allen, Henry Winkler, Billy MacLellan, Lena Headey and Reena Jolly. Ben Wheatley serves as director.<\/p>\n
