After years of frustrating misdiagnoses, a Welsh woman desperately turned to ChatGPT for answers \u2014 and the AI bot got it right when her doctors couldn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Phoebe Tesoriere, of Cardiff, Wales, had been suffering from seizures, falls and balance problems for years, and claims doctors told her she was anxious, depressed and epileptic \u2014 warning she\u2019d be treated as a mental health patient if she kept returning to the ER, according to the\u00a0BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Her symptoms stretched back to childhood. Balance was the first of her medical problems.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll my childhood I had a limp,\u201d said Tesoriere. \u201cI was born without a hip socket and had operations as a baby, so thought it was to do with that.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the time, the 23-year-old was tested for a condition called dyspraxia, which affects coordination.<\/p>\n

But tests were negative.<\/p>\n

At 19, she collapsed from a seizure, according to People<\/a>, and doctors put it down to anxiety, but she had a hard time buying it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had no history of anxiety. I was a really happy, bubbly person,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

In 2022, the young woman was diagnosed with epilepsy and put on medication \u2014 but her symptoms kept getting worse. She was struggling to walk and dealing with more seizures.<\/p>\n

Doctors then diagnosed her with Todd\u2019s paralysis, which can affect individuals with epilepsy.<\/p>\n

In January 2025, Tesoriere fell down the stairs and spent three months in the hospital undergoing a slew of tests. Phoebe Tesoriere \/ SWNS<\/p>\n

She fell down a flight of stairs in January 2025, and after a three-month hospital stay, the results of a plethora of tests were inconclusive.<\/p>\n

Seven months later, she suffered a seizure that left her in a coma for three days.<\/p>\n

Doctors told her it was anxiety.<\/p>\n

Desperate, upset and \u201clonely,\u201d she turned to ChatGPT, which suggested she might have hereditary spastic paraplegia<\/a>, a genetic condition characterized by progressive muscle stiffness and weakness in the legs.<\/p>\n

Tesoriere is now in a wheelchair and managing her genetic condition with physical therapy. Phoebe Tesoriere \/ SWNS<\/p>\n

Tesoriere brought the bot\u2019s findings to her doctors, who ordered genetic testing \u2014 and confirmed ChatGPT was right.<\/p>\n

Now in a wheelchair, Tesoriere is managing her symptoms through physical therapy. She can no longer work as a teacher, but is pursuing her master\u2019s degree in psychology to \u201cdo something that helps people.\u201d<\/p>\n
