{"id":594899,"date":"2026-04-20T04:17:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T04:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/594899\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T04:17:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T04:17:07","slug":"hipp-recalls-baby-food-jars-in-austria-after-rat-poison-found-in-samples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/594899\/","title":{"rendered":"HiPP recalls baby food jars in Austria after rat poison found in samples"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VIENNA (AP) \u2014 Baby food brand HiPP is recalling some of its baby food jars after samples in Austria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic tested positive for rat poison, officials said Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities believe the tampering occurred in 190-gram (6.7-ounce) jars of baby food made with carrots and potatoes for 5-month-olds that were sold from SPAR supermarkets in Austria. The first sample tested positive on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis recall is not due to any product or quality defect on our part. The jars left our HiPP facility in perfect condition,\u201d HiPP said in a statement. \u201cThe recall is related to a criminal act currently under investigation by the authorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Burgenland Police in Austria said the suspicious products likely have a white sticker with a red circle on the bottom of the jar. Other warning signs include a damaged or opened lid and an unusual or spoiled smell. There also might not be a popping noise when the jar is first opened.<\/p>\n<p>HiPP said it is recalling all of its <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/infant-botulism-byheart-formula-outbreak-bb11e16134e6fe001b16429221488fbc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">baby food jars<\/a> sold at SPAR supermarkets \u2014 which include SPAR, EUROSPAR, INTERSPAR and Maximarkt stores \u2014 in Austria as a precaution. Customers can get full refunds even without a receipt. Vendors in Slovakia and the Czech Republic have removed all of the brand\u2019s baby jars from sale.<\/p>\n<p>A customer reported that a jar appeared to have been tampered with, police said, though no one had consumed the baby food.<\/p>\n<p>Rat poison typically includes bromadiolone, an anticoagulant that prevents the blood from clotting, according to the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety.
