Last month, the Oscar-nominated Marty Supreme star, 30, faced a wave of criticism <\/a>after suggesting that \u201cno one cares\u201d about ballet and opera. <\/p>\n Theron, 50, a former ballet dancer, weighed in on the controversy in a new interview with The New York Times<\/a>, calling out Chalamet. <\/p>\n \u201cOh, boy, I hope I run into him one day,\u201d the Oscar-winning Monster actor<\/a> said. \u201cThat was a very reckless comment on an art form, two art forms, that we need to lift up constantly because, yes, they do have a hard time.\u201d<\/p>\n She predicted that \u201cin 10 years, A.I. is going to be able to do Timoth\u00e9e\u2019s job, but it will not be able to replace a person on a stage dancing live.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd we shouldn\u2019t [expletive] on other art forms,\u201d Theron insisted, declaring that \u201cdancers are superheroes.\u201d<\/p>\n Admitting that \u201cdance is probably one of the hardest things I ever did,\u201d the South African Mad Max: Fury Road actor credited the art form for instilling in her \u201cdiscipline, structure and hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n However, Theron further acknowledged that dance is \u201cborderline abusive,\u201d recalling: \u201cThere were several times that I had blood infections from blisters that just never healed. And you don\u2019t get a day off. I\u2019m literally talking about bleeding through your shoes. And that\u2019s something that you have to practice every single day, the mind-set of just, you don\u2019t give up, there\u2019s no other option, you keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n The Independent has contacted Chalamet\u2019s representative for comment. <\/p>\n Last month, Chalamet drew the ire of the ballet and opera worlds<\/a> for negative comments he made during a live conversation for Variety in February. <\/p>\n Joined by his Interstellar co-star Matthew McConaughey, Chalamet was speaking about viewers\u2019 diminishing attention spans when he said: \u201cI don\u2019t want to be working in ballet or opera where it\u2019s like, \u2018Hey! Keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cAll respect to the ballet and opera people out there,\u201d the Dune star added, laughing. \u201cI just lost 14 cents in viewership. I\u2019m taking shots for no reason.\u201d<\/p>\n His observation led to widespread criticism from artists around the world, with British opera star Camilla Kerslake calling his comments \u201cshocking and hurtful\u201d to the community.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the Royal Ballet and Opera also highlighted ballet and opera\u2019s impact on cinema, saying: \u201cBallet and opera have never existed in isolation, they have continually informed, inspired, and elevated other art forms.\u201d<\/p>\n His divisive comments later led to an \u201cimmediate boost\u201d<\/a> in ticket sales for the Royal Ballet and Opera (RBO), its chief executive recently revealed.<\/p>\n![\"Charlize](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Charlize-Theron-and-Timothee-Chalamet.png\")
