Is this the year Kentucky<\/a> hangs banner No. 9 to complete the assignment under Mark Pope<\/a>? The Wildcats are one of 12 legitimate contenders to cut down the nets in 2026, according to The Field of 68.<\/p>\n

They may not be a top-three team nationally, in their opinion, but the group led by Otega Oweh and Jaland Lowe belongs in the next tier of serious names to watch next season in college basketball.<\/p>\n

\u201cPurdue, Houston and Florida is the top three. They are, to me, a cut above everyone else,\u201d Rob Dauster said on THE DTF PODCAST<\/a> for The Field of 68: After Dark. \u201cThen there is a group of nine that you can kind of formulate however you want to formulate, but for me, it would be in this order: UConn, Louisville, Texas Tech, Kentucky, Duke, St. John\u2019s, Michigan, BYU and Arkansas. Those are the clear-cut top 12 teams.\u201d<\/p>\n

That would put the Wildcats at No. 7 overall and No. 2 in the SEC behind only Florida. John Fanta agrees while adding that Kentucky and Coach Pope join a web of three total schools alongside Arkansas under John Calipari and Louisville under Pat Kelsey of contenders obsessed with each other.<\/p>\n

The Wildcats and Razorbacks treat each other like jealous exes while the Wildcats and Cardinals wish nothing but the worst for each other. And yes, Big Blue Nation is a big reason for all of it.<\/p>\n

This year will be for ultimate bragging rights following honeymoon periods for all three schools with new coaches.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think year one was like \u2014 everyone was in a different place, everybody is in a different place program-wise. Now in year two, the excuses and opportunities to say, \u2018Well, it was year one,\u2019 are away. I\u2019m talking about this web that falls between Fayetteville, Arkansas, to Louisville, Kentucky, to Lexington, Kentucky. Now, this upcoming season, all three programs have a case to go to the promised land, to go that far. I think that is super intriguing because those bases are all thinking \u2014 it all goes back to BBN. <\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re all thinking about, \u2018Well, who\u2019s got the leg up?\u2019 All three teams have intriguing talent and have the makeup to go far. That fascinates me, the dynamic between Louisville, Kentucky with Jaland Lowe \u2014 who I like quite a bit \u2014 and Arkansas.\u201d<\/p>\n

The best part?<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s funny that the promised land is Indianapolis,\u201d Terrence Oglesby added, just a short drive for both UK and UL in their desperate Final Four attempts.<\/p>\n

Can all three make it to Lucas Oil Stadium? Would our hearts be able to handle the stress? That could lead to the best or worst outcome imaginable.<\/p>\n
