THOSE KILLED IDENTIFIED In the parking lot of the park, officers located a 17-year-old male, identified as Erubey Romero Medina, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.A second victim, identified as 16-year-old Daniel Jimenez Millian, was located further inside the park with a gunshot wound. Officers said he also died at the scene.OTHERS SHOT Five others were shot and were also found in a parking lot, including a 14-year-old girl, a 15-year-old girl, a 17-year-old girl, an 18-year-old boy, and a 19-year-old girl. \u201cPreliminary information indicates that some of those injured may have also been involved in the shooting,\u201d Burns said. \u201cThis incident did not occur on school grounds. It was isolated to Leinbach Park,\u201d Burns said. \u201cI want to begin by offering our sincerest condolences to those we lost today,\u201d Winston-Salem Police Chief William H. Penn, Jr. said. Penn spoke during a news conference on Monday about the latest in the investigation and also about the impacts of guns in our communities. \u201cFirst, I need to acknowledge the fear and frustration that our community must be experiencing right now and I want to let them know that I share that same fear and frustration,\u201d Penn said. \u201cI feel like I just had this same conversation about our cell phones and fights and how just having those phones out changes the behavior of our youth,\u201d Penn said during a news conference Monday afternoon. REMAIN ON ALERT Winston-Salem police are asking the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity. Police said it remains an active investigation at this time. The Robinhood Road Family YMCA was open but then closed due to the shooting. John Blackwell said he was entering the YMCA at the time. &#8220;I got into the YMCA and everyone was gone and leaving,&#8221; he said. He went to check on his mother, who had already left. Then he checked on a few neighbors on Robinhood Road. \u201cThey were scared to death. It was gunshots blasting off basically right in front of their houses,\u201d Blackwell said. SCHOOL UPDATES Jefferson Middle School Update: Class is operating as normal. If you are picking up your child, use the following streets: Take Peace Haven to Millhaven to Tallison to Thornhill. Enter through the car rider line entrance. Mt. Tabor High School Update: Class is operating as normal. There is no need to pick up your child. If you choose to do so, bring your photo ID and arrive at the front door. Career Center students will remain at Career Center.
