She has done a phenomenal job in her role by protecting American workers, enacting fair labor practices, and helping Americans gain additional skills to improve their lives,\u201d Cheung said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7p3z7m00083b6qbrn47ego@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Keith Sonderling will serve as acting secretary of the Department of Labor, Cheung added.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7p3z7m00093b6qotrdabnt@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            CNN has asked the White House for more details, including when Chavez-DeRemer\u2019s departure will take effect.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7qi3zi000s3b6qopy0ras3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecretaryLCD\/status\/2046346589539795424\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">a statement on X<\/a>, Chavez-DeRemer wrote that it had \u201cbeen an honor and a privilege to serve in this historic Administration and work for the greatest President of my lifetime.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7qiltk000u3b6qe37lyn3k@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI am proud that we made significant progress in advancing President Trump\u2019s mission to bridge the gap between business and labor and always put the American worker first,\u201d she wrote.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7pdfvj00013b6q8q9pczvt@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Chavez-DeRemer\u2019s brief tenure has been one marked by turmoil as she\u2019s come under internal investigation following complaints within the department about her conduct. The New York Times previously reported that her husband had been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/02\/19\/business\/labor-secretary-husband-sexual-assault-allegations.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">banned from the department\u2019s headquarters<\/a> amid sexual assault allegations. A criminal investigation into that matter has been closed.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7ph4s7000c3b6qtkvkkf8h@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In March, two of her top aides were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/03\/03\/us\/politics\/labor-department-secretary-aides-resign.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">forced out<\/a> amid an investigation into misconduct at the agency.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7q2rlc00003b6qk2xc4qbh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            For months, the Labor Department\u2019s Inspector General\u2019s Office has been investigating a complaint that Chavez-DeRemer was having a sexual relationship with a member of her security team, as well as other allegations of inappropriate behavior, such as sending staff to pick up liquor and attempting to use business trips as excuses for personal travel, according to a Department of Labor source with knowledge of the situation.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7q5u8100023b6qrmfoitdf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            For example, Chavez-DeRemer had expressed a desire to go to events such as a UFC fight in Chicago, a Morgan Wallen concert and to see friends and family in various states, and asked staff to design work trips that would provide her openings to attend those events, the source said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7qcj1t000o3b6qkyx6f1mh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Chavez-DeRemer\u2019s lawyer, Nick Oberheiden, said in a statement to CNN before her new job was announced, \u201cSecretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer has made a name for herself as a zealous advocate for American workers. Mission-focused and committed to President Trump with utmost loyalty, Secretary Chavez-DeRemer will not comment on biased and absurd allegations against her.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7pjl2w00043b6qup0l284y@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Chavez-DeRemer was sworn in as secretary of Labor in March 2025, a time when the Trump administration, via the Department of Government Efficiency, sought to slash federal funding, cut programs and drastically reduce the federal workforce by cutting hundreds of thousands of jobs.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7pn01q00063b6qgon61c1t@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Reductions in staffing at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in particular, stoked concern from policymakers, economists, academics, researchers and others, who sounded the alarm that existing funding and staffing were not adequate to make the \u201cgold-standard\u201d data more modernized and robust. And the agency faced acute upheaval when Trump fired Commissioner Erika McEntarfer following a jobs report that contained large revisions.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7pn2al00083b6qyb1i3wpv@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In the days following McEntarfer\u2019s firing, Chavez-DeRemer told Fox Business that it was her job to support the president in the matter.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmo7powxj000d3b6q2xi2m7d9@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            During her tenure, Chavez-DeRemer\u2019s Labor Department announced sweeping deregulatory efforts aimed at rewriting or repealing more than 60 workplace regulations it deemed obsolete.
