LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Day 1 of training camp for the defending champions felt less like a reset and more like a continuation of excellence for the Las Vegas Aces. With the standard set by their 2025 title run, the tone inside the gym was focused, sharp, and unmistakably championship-driven.

Veteran leadership remains the backbone of this group, but the spotlight on opening day naturally shifted toward the newcomers. Rookies Janiah Barker out of University of Tennessee and Jordan Obi from University of Kentucky got their first real taste of the Aces culture—one built on pace, physicality, and precision.

Barker, a forward with a strong interior presence and versatility, showed flashes of why she was a highly regarded addition. She moved well within the system, demonstrating an ability to defend multiple positions while staying active on the glass. Meanwhile, Obi brought energy to the backcourt, displaying quick decision-making and a willingness to push tempo—qualities that fit seamlessly into the Aces’ identity.

What stood out most wasn’t just individual talent, but how quickly both rookies began adapting to the expectations of a championship roster. There’s no easing into things here. Every rep matters, every possession is contested, and every player is expected to contribute to a title defense.

For Las Vegas, Day 1 wasn’t about celebration—it was about reloading. The foundation is already built, but the integration of Barker and Obi adds new layers to a team that’s clearly not content with just one championship run.

[73
99,434
post-596908","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-wnba","tag-sports","tag-wnba
["GET
