SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell earned $85.8 million in total compensation last year, a company prospectus showed, \u200cplacing her among the highest\u2011paid U.S. executives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Shotwell, who is also chief \u200coperating officer, earned a salary of $1 million, with most of her compensation coming from stock options \u200band awards, according to an excerpt of SpaceX&#8217;s S\u20111 filing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Companies use the registration document to disclose their finances and risks before going public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Elon Musk\u2019s SpaceX has filed confidentially for a U.S. IPO, Reuters reported this month, paving the way for a \u200cpotential record\u2011breaking listing valued at \u2060around $1.75 trillion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Chief Financial Officer Bret Johnson earned total compensation of $9.8 million, while billionaire CEO Musk, the majority shareholder in SpaceX, \u2060paid himself a salary of $54,080, the excerpt from the prospectus showed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The compensation figures, which have not been previously \u200breported, place \u200bShotwell&#8217;s pay above many other high-profile tech \u200bexecutives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella earned $79 \u200cmillion in 2024, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/organizations\/apple\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:Apple;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;Apple&quot;}\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Apple<\/a>\u2019s Tim Cook took home $75 million, according to compensation data compiled by Equilar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Shotwell has a net worth of $3.4 billion, according to Forbes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Although Musk is the public face of SpaceX, 62\u2011year\u2011old Shotwell manages much of the company\u2019s day\u2011to\u2011day grind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">That involves converting Musk\u2019s futuristic vision into the practical realities of \u200cmanufacturing rockets, deploying satellites and lining up \u200bcommercial, government and military customers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Shotwell joined SpaceX in \u200b2002 as vice president of \u200bbusiness development, becoming employee No. 7 at the then\u2011fledgling company.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">She has \u200cbeen a central behind\u2011the\u2011scenes figure in \u200bbuilding demand for SpaceX\u2019s \u200breusable Falcon 9 rocket, as well as its Starlink satellite broadband constellation, which now generates the bulk of the company\u2019s revenue and profit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">A \u200bmechanical engineer by training, \u200cShotwell began her career at Chrysler Motors before moving into the space \u200bindustry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">(Reporting by Echo Wang;
