Stephen Colbert gave a surprise shoutout to his late-night peer Jimmy Kimmel on Monday, all to make a point about President Donald Trump\u2019s apparent history-erasing influence<\/a> over the Smithsonian. <\/p>\n

\u201cHere\u2019s what happened,\u201d Colbert explained. \u201cThe Smithsonian has a longstanding exhibit on presidential impeachment… In 2021, after the whole \u2018Trump sent a mob to storm the Capitol\u2019 thing, they added a label that included content about Trump\u2019s two impeachments.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert joked, \u201cThat kind of pressure explains why the Smithsonian exhibit on the 1960s now says that the Vietnam War was started by Jimmy Kimmel.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colbert showed a photoshopped picture of a museum exhibit titled, \u201cThe Vietnam War: Jimmy\u2019s Idea.\u201d <\/p>\n

He joked further, \u201cEvidently, the whole thing was just a prank that got out of hand.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kimmel has frequently attracted Trump\u2019s ire<\/a>, and is the late-night host who Trump seems to despise the most<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Even in light of Colbert\u2019s cancellation announcement<\/a> in July, Trump quickly moved on from gloating about Colbert so he could speculate<\/a> about Kimmel being cancelled next. <\/p>\n

After referencing Kimmel in his monologue, Colbert quietly blew a kiss to the camera. <\/p>\n

The oddly sweet, sincere gesture comes mere weeks after Kimmel defended Colbert amid his cancellation from CBS. <\/p>\n

\u201cLove you Stephen,\u201d Kimmel posted on Instagram<\/a> shortly after the news broke. To CBS, he wrote, \u201dF— you and all your Sheldons.”<\/p>\n

Kimmel took his Colbert support even further on Friday by running an FYC Emmys campaign for Colbert\u2019s show<\/a> instead of his own.
