\n\tUniversal Pictures\u2019 upcoming Miami Vice movie officially has its Tubbs and Crockett as well a new title as Michael B. Jordan<\/a> and Austin Butler<\/a> are set to star in Miami Vice \u201985 with Joseph Kosinski directing. The film will be shot for Imax and is set to bow on August 6, 2027.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film explores the glamour and corruption of mid-\u201980s Miami in an all-new version of\u00a0Miami Vice, inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark Universal Television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.<\/p>\n

\n\tDeadline reported last fall that Jordan<\/a> and Butler<\/a> were in talks to star in the pic, but it was not expected to begin production until fall of 2026, so there was no rush to close deals. Insiders add that the film only recently went to get its budget greenlighted and deals for Jordan and Butler closed soon after the studio gave the thumbs up.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe film will be produced by Dylan Clark\/Dylan Clark Productions and Kosinski. Nightcrawler Oscar nominee Dan Gilroy is writing the script<\/a>, based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich from the series executive produced by Yerkovich and Michael Mann. Eric Warren Singer wrote an earlier draft of the screenplay.<\/p>\n

\n\tEVP Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Christina Hoffrogge will oversee the project for Universal.<\/p>\n

\n\tJordan won an Academy Award, Actor Award and two NAACP Awards for his lead dual-performance in\u00a0Sinners, Jordan\u2019s fifth collaboration with director Ryan Coogler. Upon its release in March 2025,\u00a0Sinners\u00a0became a critical, cultural and box office juggernaut, marking the biggest debut for an original film since 2019.<\/p>\n

\n\tNext up, Jordan will direct, star and produce a reimagining of\u00a0The Thomas Crown Affair<\/a>\u00a0for Amazon MGM. The film hits theaters worldwide March 5, 2027<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tButler\u2019s performance as Elvis Presley in\u00a0Elvis\u00a0earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, along with Golden Globe and BAFTA wins in the category. He since has delivered standout roles as the chilling Feyd-Rautha in\u00a0Dune: Part Two\u00a0(2024), biker Benny in\u00a0The Bikeriders\u00a0(2023) and HBO miniseries Major Gale \u201cBuck\u201d Cleven in\u00a0Masters of the Air\u00a0(2024). Upcoming, he will star in the A24 crime thriller\u00a0Enemies<\/a>\u00a0with Jeremy Allen White.<\/p>\n
