{"id":601377,"date":"2026-04-23T10:15:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T10:15:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/601377\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T10:15:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T10:15:08","slug":"ex-new-order-bassist-peter-hook-wont-stand-with-bandmates-at-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/601377\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-New Order bassist Peter Hook won&#8217;t stand with bandmates at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame is about to induct two of Britain\u2019s most influential acts \u2014 but don\u2019t expect a feel-good reunion when the lights go up.<\/p>\n<p>As Joy Division and New Order get set to be honored together, Peter Hook \u2014 founding bassist for both groups \u2014 is making it clear he won\u2019t be anywhere near his former bandmates on stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo. No. Not after what they did to me and my family, no,\u201d Hook, 70, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/peter-hook-new-order-truce-reunion-rock-hall-1235551291\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Rolling Stone<\/a> when asked if he\u2019d appear alongside Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Joy Division and New Order founding bassist Peter Hook is refusing to reunite with his former bandmates at the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. Future Publishing via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI won\u2019t stand with them. No. I couldn\u2019t give a s\u2013t [how it would work]. I\u2019m not bothered. You\u2019ve got to have morals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tension between Hook and his bandmates goes back years. <\/p>\n<p>After Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis died by suicide in 1980, the remaining members regrouped as New Order.<\/p>\n<p>New Order in 1989, from left: Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, Peter Hook and Gillian Gilbert. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>However, Hook exited the band in 2007, believing at the time that the group was finished. <\/p>\n<p>Instead, the others reformed in 2011 without Hook, triggering a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2016\/09\/16\/ex-new-order-bassist-details-his-bands-painful-divorce\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lengthy legal dispute over royalties<\/a> and the use of the band\u2019s name.<\/p>\n<p>Hook, who hasn\u2019t spoken to some of his former bandmates in over a decade, says the November induction is still something he\u2019s looking forward to \u2014 just not because of them.<\/p>\n<p>Sumner and Hook perform on stage at Brixton Academy, London in October 2001. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor many, many reasons \u2026 not one other member of the band is a reason,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hook didn\u2019t hold back on how the fallout still shapes his stance today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Bernard pops his head around and goes, \u2018Hey Hooky, sorry about that eight-year legal battle that cost you six years\u2019 wages. I\u2019m sure that could be a lovely one,\u201d he said, with more than a hint of sarcasm.<\/p>\n<p>The legal fight was ultimately settled in 2017, but whatever peace was reached on paper hasn\u2019t translated into a real reconciliation.<\/p>\n<p>Hook says he hasn\u2019t spoken to Sumner in 15 years, Gilbert in 15 years and Morris in 4 or 5 years.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Hook and the Light perform live at Let\u2019s Rock Leeds, June 22, 2024. SOPA Images\/LightRocket via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t look good, mate,\u201d Hook said about the chances of performing together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sure there\u2019s someone you can\u2019t stand, and you don\u2019t see him or her or whoever.
