Dave Grohl<\/a>\u00a0has revealed his booze-filled secret to\u00a0keeping his vocal cords in healthy condition.<\/p>\n

Foo Fighters<\/a>\u00a0are\u00a0preparing to release their 12th\u00a0studio album \u2018My Favorite Toy<\/a>\u2019 tomorrow (April 24) via Roswell Records\/Columbia Records, and they have previewed it with the singles \u2018Asking\u00a0For\u00a0A\u00a0Friend<\/a>\u2019, \u2018Your Favorite Toy<\/a>\u2019, \u2018Caught\u00a0In\u00a0The\u00a0Echo<\/a>\u2019 and \u2018Of All People<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n

With\u00a0some big dates confirmed for later in the year<\/a>, Grohl has now spoken about the importance\u00a0of\u00a0looking after his voice\u00a0and has told the Dish podcast about his doctor-approved method.<\/p>\n

He told hosts Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett about a time \u201cmaybe eight years ago\u201d that he had to \u201cgo get\u00a0my vocal cords checked\u00a0out\u201d,\u00a0something he said he had \u201cnever done\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I was like, \u2018Oh, Jesus.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0going to look like string\u00a0cheese\u2019,\u201d he joked.\u00a0\u201cAnd I thought, \u2018Okay, this is it.\u00a0They\u2019re\u00a0gonna\u00a0tell me that\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0thrashed my vocal cords,\u00a0and\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0never be able to sing again\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Grohl continued: \u201cAnd the guy sticks the camera down into my throat and he goes, \u2018Just relax.\u2019 And\u00a0he\u2019d\u00a0say, \u2018Okay, now say \u2018eee\u2019.\u2019 And\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0going, \u2018Eee.\u2019 And then he looks at my vocal cords and\u00a0he goes, \u2018Wow, they look great.\u2019 And I said, \u2018You\u2019re kidding\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said, \u2018No, they look amazing. Do you do vocal warmups?\u2019 I said, \u2018No, I don\u2019t.\u2019 And he goes, \u2018Okay, do you do like vocal cool downs after a show?\u2019 I said, \u2018No.\u2019 And he said, \u2018Well, what do you do before a gig?\u2019 I said, \u2018Honestly?\u00a0An hour before the show,\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0open a beer\u00a0and I\u2019ll\u00a0start drinking\u00a0the beer. I might take an Advil because my knees hurt, my ankles hurt, whatever,\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0old. Um, then I have a shot of whiskey.\u00a0And then once the beer is done,\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0open another beer. Then\u00a0we\u2019ll\u00a0maybe have\u00a0a\u00a0group shot of whiskey. Which we call \u2018band prayer\u2019\u00a0and then someone will say 15\u00a0minutes\u00a0and I open one more beer and have one more shot.\u00a0And then hit the stage\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd my doctor said, \u2018Just\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0change what\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0doing.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0working!\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Ok, great!\u2019 And\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0it!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Later this summer, Foo Fighters will\u00a0embark on a European \u2018Take Cover\u2019 tour<\/a>, including two concerts at Anfield stadium in Liverpool (find any remaining tickets here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

They\u2019ll\u00a0play some\u00a0North American dates over the summer and autumn<\/a>, too, and have announced an Australia and New Zealand leg for 2026 and 2027<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They have also recently reflected on the sacking of drummer Josh Freese<\/a>, describing it as a \u201cdecision that was best for all parties\u201d,\u00a0and\u00a0saying they \u201cknow what feels best for our band\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n
