{"id":601640,"date":"2026-04-23T13:29:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T13:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/601640\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T13:29:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T13:29:09","slug":"when-and-how-to-watch-through-april-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/601640\/","title":{"rendered":"When and how to watch through April 25"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">WHEN<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Lyrid meteor shower began on April 16th and continues through April 25th.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The peak of the shower was April 21st into the morning hours of April 22, but you can still see some meteors over the next couple of nights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">HOW MANY<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Lyrids are known for being bright and fast meteors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">You\u2019ll typically see between 10 and 20 meteors per hour during peak timing, but meteors are still visible outside of peak hours. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">HISTORY<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Lyrids, which peak in April, are one of the oldest recorded meteor showers. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The earliest sightings of the Lyrids on record dates back to approximately 2,700 years ago by the Chinese.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">VIEWING<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Lyrid meteors are best viewed during predawn hours away from city lights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Especially since we\u2019re now out of the peak time frame, you may want to lie down in a chair or on a blanket for viewing, as meteors may not be as frequent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Look toward the eastern sky, allowing your eyes to adjust to the darkness for 20 to 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Tonight\u2019s skies across Southeast Michigan will be mainly clear. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Thursday night will be partly cloudy, and although the meteor shower will continue, we expect more clouds and rain to move in for Friday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Meteors move quickly, so look for a quick trail of light through the dark sky.<\/p>\n<p>The Lyrid meteor shower will still be visible for a couple of nights (WDIV)<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 by WDIV ClickOnDetroit &#8211; All rights reserved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"WHEN The Lyrid meteor shower began on April 16th and continues through April 25th.
