Reitmans<\/a> is ready to take over centre court. The Canadian retailer has been named an official partner of Toronto Tempo, Canada\u2019s first team to compete in the Women\u2019s National Basketball Association (WNBA). At the heart of the just-announced collaboration, Reitmans becomes the presenting sponsor<\/a> of the team\u2019s dance crew, The Rhythm Section.<\/p>\n

The Rhythm Section will wear custom looks designed by the Reitmans team at its Montreal headquarters for all of their upcoming performances and appearances. Created under the brand\u2019s activewear banner, Hyba, The Rhythm Section\u2019s new uniforms are designed for movement, pairing function with a bold, modern aesthetic inspired by the Tempo\u2019s energy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Tempo is setting the tone for a bold new era of women\u2019s sport in Canada, and we\u2019re intentional about choosing partners who share that vision,\u201d said Lisa Ferkul, Chief Revenue Officer, Toronto Tempo in a release. \u201cReitmans has supported the diverse lives of Canadian women for a century, and we\u2019re thrilled to have this Canadian icon help write this first chapter of our team\u2019s story.\u201d<\/p>\n

In May 2024, the WNBA announced its expansion into Canada by awarding Toronto an expansion team, the league’s first outside the United States. The new team, owned by Kilmer Sports Ventures, was officially announced on December 5, 2024, and will compete as a member of the Eastern Conference. The roster features stars like Brittney Sykes, Marina Mabrey, Kia Nurse, and 2026 first-ever draft pick Kiki Rice.<\/p>\n

One of the WNBA’s two new franchises for the 2026 season, Toronto Tempo<\/a> will open its inaugural pre-season schedule against the Connecticut Sun at the Coca-Cola Coliseum on April 29 before heading to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Lynx on May 1. Toronto will open the regular season against the visiting Washington Mystics on May 8.<\/p>\n

The Toronto Tempo partnership with Reitmans comes as the retailer celebrates 100 years in business. Founded in 1926 by Herman and Sarah Reitman in Montreal, the family business expanded over the decades into one of Canada\u2019s largest women\u2019s clothing retailers. Today there are more than 200 stores operating across the country.<\/p>\n
