{"id":602161,"date":"2026-04-23T19:28:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T19:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/602161\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T19:28:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T19:28:08","slug":"flyers-goalie-dan-vladar-misses-practice-after-apparent-injury-late-in-game-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/602161\/","title":{"rendered":"Flyers goalie Dan Vlada\u0159 misses practice after apparent injury late in Game 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Listen to article \u2022\u00a00:00 min<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Less than 24 hours after taking a three-games-to-none lead in their Eastern Conference first-round matchup with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Flyers were back on the ice for practice Thursday in Voorhees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Everyone was accounted for, except defenseman <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/cam-york\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cam York<\/a>, forward <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/owen-tippett\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Owen Tippett<\/a>, and goalie Dan Vlada\u0159.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Tippett has been banged up for quite some time and in and out of practices recently, and coach <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/rick-tocchet\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rick Tocchet<\/a> revealed Tuesday that York took \u201ca shot to the ribs.\u201d Both played Wednesday, with Tippett scoring an empty-netter to seal the 5-2 victory, and Tocchet said on Thursday that both had maintenance days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The question marks, however, swirl around Vlada\u0159. In the third period, he took a knee to the hand or arm from Bryan Rust as the Penguins forward tried to cut across the crease during a power play. Vlada\u0159 immediately appeared to be in pain after losing his blocker and was seen flexing his hand while being checked by the Flyers\u2019 head athletic trainer, Tommy Alva. But he stayed in the game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cHe\u2019s banged up,\u201d Tocchet said postgame. \u201cWe\u2019ll see how he is [Thursday]. But yeah, I don\u2019t know at this moment how bad it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">When asked after practice about the goalie, Tocchet was guarded with his response.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cIt\u2019s more of a maintenance day,\u201d he said. \u201cHe was probably going to be off anyway. But he is a little banged up. Feels better today. That\u2019s basically all the information we have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Signed as a free agent on July 1, Vlada\u0159 has been the Flyers\u2019 mainstay in net this season. He went 29-14-7 with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage across 52 games in the regular season. Twelve of those wins came during the Flyers\u2019 post-Olympic push, when he posted a 2.34 GAA and a .908 save percentage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p type-interstitial text-primary\">\u00bb READ MORE: <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-link-type=\"interstitial\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/flyers\/nick-seeler-defenseman-playoff-goal-mental-reset-glue-guy-20260423.html\" class=\"no-underline text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\">Flyers defenseman Nick Seeler walked away from the NHL, came back, and now has his first playoff goal<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">In the postseason, Vlada\u0159 has been stellar with a 1.33 GAA, a .946 save percentage, and his first postseason shutout in Game 2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">If he cannot go  Saturday in Game 4 at Xfinity Mobile Arena (8 p.m., NBCSP, TBS, truTV, HBO Max), <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/sam-ersson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sam Ersson<\/a> would take the net and make his Stanley Cup playoff debut. Ersson had an up-and-down season but turned things around post-Olympics as well, going 6-1-0 with a 1.99 GAA and a .912 save percentage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cI feel like I\u2019m in a good spot with my game,\u201d Ersson said. \u201cObviously, it helps, stringing wins together, makes you feel better and better about your game. So obviously, it helps a little bit. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cI knew I had to take a step up from how I was playing,\u201d he said. \u201cTrying to do my best to kind of contribute, and we knew every point during that stretch mattered, right? It was very important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Tocchet has been impressed by Ersson\u2019s mental and physical game since the Olympic break and has confidence in his netminder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cI\u2019ll tell you, the Montreal game, going in there, we have half of Lehigh,\u201d Tocchet said of the season finale that saw several players from the American Hockey League skate, which the Flyers won, 4-2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cHim going in, people were thinking we were throwing him to the wolves. He was really good. So, I\u2019m not really worried if he had to play, I really wouldn\u2019t. He\u2019s locked in, even today in practice.
