{"id":604482,"date":"2026-04-24T22:47:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T22:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/604482\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T22:47:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T22:47:08","slug":"mays-landing-man-released-from-jail-in-gun-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/604482\/","title":{"rendered":"Mays Landing man released from jail in gun case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Mays Landing man arrested after guns allegedly were found in his confiscated vehicle was released from jail Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Romello Gardner was stopped by Hamilton township police for tinted windows and license plate cover April 5.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He and his passenger were released at the scene, but a K-9 indicting drugs were inside the vehicle led to police towing his 2021 black Dodge Durango.<\/p>\n<p>A search warrant for the seized vehicle days later resulted in the discovery of guns not drugs.<\/p>\n<p>There was a .40-caliber Glock 22 in the glove compartment, a .45 ACP Glock 21 in the armrest and a 9mm Beretta was found in a book bag under the passenger seat, <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingac.com\/news\/2026\/apr\/13\/mays-landing-man-wanted-after-weapons-found-in-impounded-vehicle\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BreakingAC previously reported<\/a>. One of the guns was stolen out of Monroe Township, Middlesex County.<\/p>\n<p>The Glock 22 was not loaded, but the Glock 21 had 10 hollow points, while the Beretta had eight rounds, including one in the chamber, according to the 13 charges each man faces.<\/p>\n<p>The weapons offenses included possession of firearms by a minor, since both were 20 at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Those younger than 21 cannot legally own a handgun.<\/p>\n<p>His passenger, Luis Lopez-Bautista, was arrested April 13, and was <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingac.com\/news\/2026\/apr\/21\/hamilton-fugitive-arrested-co-defendant-held-in-gun-case\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">ordered held<\/a> at a detention hearing last week.<\/p>\n<p>Gardner <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingac.com\/news\/2026\/apr\/21\/hamilton-fugitive-arrested-co-defendant-held-in-gun-case\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">was arrested Monday<\/a> by the U.S. Marshal&#8217;s Fugitive Task Force on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>He was released at his detention hearing Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The transportation of weapons on our highways and byways is extremely alarming and it happens too frequently,&#8221; Judge Jeffrey Wilson said in making his decision.<\/p>\n<p>However, he said he was not worried that Gardner would obstruct or that he was a flight risk.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, the judge said he believed that he could put conditions in place that would allow Gardner to be released.<\/p>\n<p>Gardner, who turned 21 this month, was on pretrial intervention for an obstruction charge when he was arrested.<\/p>\n<p>Defense attorney Durann Neil successfully argued for his release, and said his client just wanted to get home to his child, who was born Thursday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Mays Landing man arrested after guns allegedly were found in his confiscated vehicle was released from jail&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":604483,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[4,450,451,3,452,453],"class_list":{"0":"post-604482","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-breaking-news","8":"tag-breaking-news","9":"tag-breakingnews","10":"tag-headlines","11":"tag-news","12":"tag-top-stories","13":"tag-topstories"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/604482","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=604482"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/604482\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/604483"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=604482"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=604482"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=604482"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
