{"id":604835,"date":"2026-04-25T03:04:40","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T03:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/604835\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T03:04:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T03:04:40","slug":"jefferson-einstein-to-close-north-philly-pediatric-practices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/604835\/","title":{"rendered":"Jefferson Einstein to close North Philly pediatric practices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>Nurses and other staff at Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital are accusing health system owners of divesting services from communities and leaving children and families in North Philly with fewer health care options due to planned pediatric closures.\n<\/p>\n<p>Jefferson Health, which acquired the former Einstein Healthcare Network in 2021, confirmed it will shutter four longstanding pediatric practices by the end of June, including the Pediatric and Adolescent Ambulatory Center at the hospital in the Fern Rock neighborhood.\n<\/p>\n<p>Other closing offices include Einstein Physicians Holland Pediatrics\u2019 Buck Road, Frankford and Bustleton locations.\n  <\/p>\n<p>The closures are scheduled for June 30.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just leaves such a hole in this community,\u201d said Carla Lecoin, a registered nurse who cares for mothers and babies, outside the hospital Thursday. \u201c[Jefferson] forgot that when they took on the building, they took on us, they took on families in the community as well.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Lecoin is a member of Einstein Nurses United, which is affiliated with the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Health Professionals, also known as <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/pasnap-medicaid-cuts-philly-bill-of-rights\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PASNAP<\/a>. (Nicole Leonard\/WHYY)\n<\/p>\n<p>The union does not include staff at the outpatient pediatric practices, but hospital nurses say they\u2019ve often directed families to these centers for ongoing care after birth.\n<\/p>\n<p>Having in-network pediatric practices throughout North Philly provided an easy continuum of care for mothers and babies coming out of the hospital, especially in the neonatal intensive care unit, said registered nurse Samuel Carchidi.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it is important for our NICU patients who have a lot of medical needs even after they\u2019re discharged to have that continuity, so that way their care that they\u2019re receiving is as accurate and thorough as it needs to be,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>But Carchidi now worries for those families.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce they leave the hospital doors, Jefferson no longer seems to care about them,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I feel like closing down all the resources for them shows that.\u201d<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-739450 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/jefferson-health-einstein-042426-nl-05-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"Samuel Carchidi, a registered nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit \" width=\"640\" height=\"359\"  \/>Samuel Carchidi, a registered nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit at Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital, joins other union health care workers of Einstein Nurses United in a small rally in North Philly on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
