ISLAMABAD (TND) — Iran’s foreign minister returned to Pakistan on Sunday as efforts continue to restart ceasefire talks between the United States and Iran.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had briefly left Islamabad late Saturday, creating confusion about the next round of negotiations. He returned to the Pakistani capital before continuing to Moscow, according to Iranian state media. He had also recently been in Oman, which has played a role in past mediation efforts.

Pakistani officials say they are working to bring both sides back to the table, but it remains unclear when U.S. negotiators will return to the region.

The White House had planned to send envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan for a second round of talks, confirming their travel plans on Friday.

However, President Donald Trump later said he canceled the trip, citing a lack of progress. “They can call us anytime they want,” Trump said.

The U.S. and Iran agreed to a ceasefire earlier this month, which has largely paused the fighting that began in late February.

Earlier this week, Trump said the U.S. will extend the ceasefire until Iran’s leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal. The president said he decided at the request of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

However, a long-term agreement has not been reached.

One of the biggest challenges in the talks is the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route. Iran continues to restrict movement through the waterway, while the United States maintains a naval blockade of Iranian ports. About 20% of the world’s oil normally passes through the strait, making it a central issue in negotiations.

Officials say Iran is pushing for a system that would allow it to collect fees from ships passing through the strait. At the same time, Iran is demanding an end to the U.S. blockade before agreeing to new talks. Mediators, led by Pakistan, are working to bridge the gap between the two sides.

Iran has said it prefers indirect negotiations, with intermediaries handling communication between themselves and the United States. Araghchi has also been in contact with officials from Qatar and Saudi Arabia as regional countries continue to play a role in the diplomatic effort.

Despite the ceasefire, tensions remain high. Both sides have continued to issue warnings. Iran has said it will respond strongly if U.S. military pressure continues, while Trump has authorized aggressive action against potential threats in the region.

At the same time, the conflict is having a growing impact on the global economy. Disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have affected supplies of oil, natural gas, fertilizer, and other goods.

President Trump said over the weekend that Iran has made a “much better” proposal following the cancellation of the U.S. delegation’s trip. He did not provide details but reiterated that a key U.S. demand is that Iran must not develop a nuclear weapon.

Iran’s nuclear program remains a central issue in the talks, with international officials closely monitoring uranium enrichment levels.

Even with the ceasefire in place, the conflict has already caused significant loss of life. Thousands have been killed in Iran and Lebanon, with additional casualties reported in Israel and across the region. U.S. service members and United Nations peacekeepers have also been among the dead.

A separate ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has been extended, though that group is not directly involved in the U.S.-Iran negotiations.

ISLAMABAD (TND) — Iran’s foreign minister returned to Pakistan on Sunday as efforts continue to restart ceasefire talks…

[18
23,3,21,19,22,20,25,24
post-607800","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-united-states","tag-america","tag-news","tag-united-states","tag-united-states-of-america","tag-unitedstates","tag-unitedstatesofamerica","tag-us","tag-usa
["GET
