Brady Tkachuk<\/a> is already popping up in offseason trade rumors after his Ottawa Senators<\/a> were swept out of the first round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The most recent Tkachuk-related speculation comes from The Fourth Period\u2019s David Pagnotta, who asserted his belief on Edmonton Sports Talk<\/a> that the Senators will actively shop their captain this summer. Tkachuk, who had 59 points (22g, 37a) in 60 regular-season games, did not record a single point and was in the penalty box for 13 minutes during Ottawa\u2019s series against Carolina.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know everyone in Ottawa is losing their you know what,\u201d Pagnotta said<\/a>. \u201cThey\u2019re saying, \u2018He\u2019s checked out, he\u2019s this, and trade him, and this and that.\u2019 There will be trade discussions this summer, so be careful what you wish for. I\u2019d be a little bit surprised if he\u2019s [on the Senators] next season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI expect everyone\u2019s talking about him going to Florida, but if you\u2019re the Sens, are you trading him in-division? No. Maybe out of division in the East. I think the preference would probably be out west. We\u2019ll see what happens there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tkachuk, who owns a full no-movement clause, has two more seasons left on his contract with the Senators at an $8.2 million cap hit before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2028. His situation closely mirrors that of his older brother, Matthew Tkachuk<\/a>, from four years ago, when the elder Tkachuk did not sign an extension with the Calgary Flames<\/a>, eventually forcing them to find a trade suitor in the Florida Panthers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old winger has spent his entire eight-season career with the Senators after they drafted him fourth overall in the 2018 NHL Draft. In 572 total games, he\u2019s tallied 463 points (213g, 250a), with a single-season, career-best 83 points (35g, 48a) in 82 games during the 2022-23 campaign.<\/p>\n

Tkachuk is one of the most unique players in the NHL, combining a hard-hitting style with the ability to score 30-plus goals a season. Since his rookie 2018-19 campaign, only player in the NHL has recorded more penalty minutes than Tkachuk (821), Washington Capitals<\/a> winger Tom Wilson<\/a> (843).<\/p>\n

The 2026 gold-medal winner with Team USA is also incredibly effective at five-on-five. With Tkachuk on the ice this past year, the Senators saw 58.3 percent of shot attempts, 60.9 percent of expected goals, 61.1 percent of scoring chances, and 60.8 percent of high-danger chances.<\/p>\n

While Tkachuk would likely have an endless list of interested suitors if he does indeed hit the trade block, theoretically, the Capitals could be among the top teams to fight for his services. The Caps have long sought an impact addition to their top-six forward group, and general manager Chris Patrick has committed to continuing that search this summer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Capitals have stockpiled prospects and draft picks for an opportunity like Tkachuk becoming available<\/a>, and will have the cap space to take on a big deal.
