(Supplied: Lisa George)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Georges have volunteered as campground hosts for the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) for the past four years, after decades of family holidays on the island.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The QPWS runs hosting opportunities in the national parks of Girraween, Bunya Mountains, Carnarvon Gorge, and North West and Lady Musgrave islands due to their popularity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;[It] is a little bit of our way of giving back but there&#8217;s a lot in it for us, we enjoy that sort of thing, it&#8217;s nice to meet new people and it&#8217;s a great place to be,&#8221; Mr George said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A man holds his arm around a woman with a sunset in the background\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/e8aad0d553f59c2d035e7a9565ef0b6a.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Brett and Lisa George volunteer at North West Island once a year for about one month.
