The USS Idaho nuclear submarine was officially commissioned on Saturday by the United States Navy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The ceremony took place at the naval submarine base in New London, Connecticut.<\/p>\n
Senator James Risch delivered the ceremony’s principal address.<\/p>\n
Other speakers included Idaho Governor Brad Little and representative Mike Simpson.<\/p>\n
The USS Idaho is the 26th Virginia-class fast attack submarine.<\/p>\n
It is the fifth navy ship to be named after the state of Idaho.<\/p>\n
U.S. fleet forces command says the USS Idaho brings significant war-fighting capacity, with enhanced stealth, sophisticated surveillance and special warfare advancements.<\/p>\n
Each Virginia class sub-marine is 7,800 tons, 377 feet long, and has a beam of 34 feet.<\/p>\n
They are designed with a re-actor plant that will not require re-fueling during the planned life of the ship.<\/p>\n
