ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) \u2014 On Monday, a record number of Georgians headed to the polls to vote in the midterm primary early, according to the Georgia Secretary of State\u2019s office. <\/p>\n
During the first day of early voting, 35,352 Georgians cast their ballot in person. That\u2019s a 29% increase compared to 2022\u2019s number of 27,298 and 281% larger than 2018\u2019s number of 9,266. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis record-breaking turnout is proof that Georgians trust our election process,\u201d Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said in a statement. \u201cMy office is in constant coordination with county election officials to ensure early voting continues to run smoothly.\u201d <\/p>\n
LIST: Candidates who have qualified in Georgia\u2019s May primary<\/a><\/p>\n Mail-in voters have also made their voices heard, with 1,732 absentee ballots accepted on Monday. <\/p>\n The midterm primary election will decide which candidates will run in the general election on Nov. 3.
