An A-list singer is aiming to bring a massive youth camp to the Goleta Valley<\/a>, though not all of the neighboring residents are too pleased about it.<\/p>\n

Katy Perry and her Firework Foundation have their sights set on a tract of land near Santa Barbara, California for what will be called Gratitude Canyon, located at 183 Winchester Canyon Road in Goleta, California.<\/p>\n

The camp, founded by the 41-year-old pop star and her sister, Angela Lerche, would be located on a 110.37-acre lot, with the foundation\u2019s proposal set to go before the South Board of Architectural Review on Friday.<\/p>\n

While it\u2019s unclear if the proposal will go through, some neighboring residents have voiced concerns for the project as of late.<\/p>\n

Winchester Canyon resident Dave Root sent a letter to the board, where he said that he and other neighbors were concerned about the impact on local traffic, fire hazard risk, water supply and wastewater capacity if the camp is approved.<\/p>\n

He added that the project, \u201cappears inconsistent with the core purpose and requirements\u201d of the agricultural zoning designation.<\/p>\n

The foundation claims they will preserve the property\u2019s, \u201cagricultural heritage and natural landscape through a low-impact design that maintains rural character, protects neighbor privacy, and fully aligns with County land use policies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The camp is, \u201cenvisioned as a place of inspiration and access for underserved youth from the surrounding region and local community, offering programming rooted in the arts, nature exploration, and creative expression.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u200bThey are intending to build new structures that will cover approximately 3% of the site, \u201cpreserving approximately 97% of the property as open landscape including restored habitat areas, orchards, pathways, outdoor recreation spaces, and nature-based use areas.\u201d<\/p>\n

The camp is, \u201cenvisioned as a place of inspiration and access for underserved youth from the surrounding region and local community, offering programming rooted in the arts, nature exploration, and creative expression.\u201d gratitudecanyon.org<\/p>\n

The site currently houses 22,833-square-feet of residence, agricultural storage and accessory structures.<\/p>\n
