<\/a>King Charles US visit schedule: When will he meet 9\/11 survivors and what is Camilla doing today?<\/p>\n

Charles and Camilla are set to travel to New York on the third day of their state visit, where they will visit the 9\/11 memorial around 1pm local time (6pm BST) marking the approach of the 25th anniversary of the 11 September attacks. <\/p>\n

During their visit, they will also meet with first responders and families of those who were killed that day.<\/p>\n

As part of a visit to the New York Public Library\u2019s permanent treasures collection at 2pm local time (7pm BST), the Queen will give a specially made toy of Winnie-the-Pooh character Roo to the library to complete a set of the beloved characters in one of the institution\u2019s collections.<\/p>\n

The library is home to the teddy bears which belonged to Christopher Robin, son of Winnie-the-Pooh creator A A Milne, believed to have inspired the stories first published in 1926. While Winnie, Tigger, Piglet, Kanga and Eeyore are all on display, the original baby kangaroo toy, Roo, was lost in an apple orchard in the 1930s.<\/p>\n

The Roo toy was made specifically for the visit by traditional British teddy bear makers Merrythought, who produced the original toys.<\/p>\n

An estimated 7 million Americans<\/a> took part in 2,100 \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests this past October.<\/p>\n

One of those is reported to be the city\u2019s mayor Zohran Mamdani, who is the son of prominent Ugandan postcolonial theorist Mahmood Mamdani. <\/p>\n

The mayor\u2019s father\u2019s research centres around British imperialism – a project Charles\u2019 ancestors oversaw.<\/p>\n

Zohran Mamdani\u2019s team has said he will not have a private audience with the King during his visit.<\/p>\n

In a statement to Politico, a spokesperson from the mayor\u2019s office said: \u201cThe mayor will not meet privately with King Charles.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was invited to join a number of New York elected officials next week at a wreath laying at the 9\/11 memorial with members of the British royal family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Donald Trump<\/a> has insisted that the King shares his conviction that Iran must never be permitted to develop nuclear weapons, a claim likely to cause unease within royal circles given the monarch\u2019s constitutional neutrality.<\/p>\n

The US President made the remarks during a White House<\/a> state dinner held in honour of the visiting King and Queen Camilla<\/a>, following bilateral discussions earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

As head of state, the King traditionally remains above party politics, making Mr Trump\u2019s public declaration of his views potentially embarrassing for royal aides.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the white-tie event on Tuesday evening, Mr Trump stated: “We\u2019re doing a little Middle East work right now\u2026 and we\u2019re doing very well.<\/p>\n

<\/a>King’s visit has ‘stabilised’ UK-US relationship, former US ambassador says<\/p>\n

An US ambassador has said King Charles\u2019 visit has given \u201cmuch-needed breathing space\u201d for the UK-US relationship.<\/p>\n

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Sir David Manning, former UK ambassador to the US, said Charles has done \u201cextremely well\u201d to deliver key messages amid a \u201cstrained relationship\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said among the messages the King wanted to get across was the idea \u201cthat we\u2019re much stronger together than we are apart and that we must accept that we won\u2019t always agree on everything and work through those differences\u201d.<\/p>\n

He added Charles had also referred to the \u201cvalues\u201d that underpin our system including \u201cchecks and balances\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it will stabilise things,\u201d he said. \u201cI have no doubt that it has given the relationship much-needed breathing space.\u201d<\/p>\n
