{"id":613334,"date":"2026-04-29T13:23:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T13:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/613334\/"},"modified":"2026-04-29T13:23:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T13:23:08","slug":"texas-cruise-ship-terminal-wins-architecture-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/613334\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas cruise ship terminal wins architecture award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former banana warehouse recently became the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/gulf-coast\/article\/galveston-cruise-passengers-annual-data-21221590.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Port of Galveston&#8217;s<\/a> third cruise terminal to win a prestigious regional architecture award from the Houston Business Journal.<\/p>\n<p>Cruise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/gulf-coast\/article\/msc-seascape-cruise-ship-texas-21154087.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Terminal 16<\/a>, shared by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chron.com\/gulf-coast\/article\/msc-cruises-seascape-menu-galveston-21075112.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">MSC<\/a> and Norwegian cruise lines, was singled out for a Landmark Award in HBJ&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/houston\/c\/meet-landmark-awards-finalists-winners-honorees.html?csrc=6398&amp;link_source=ta_first_comment&amp;taid=69e9a77c544d390001067c07&amp;utm_campaign=trueAnthemTrendingContent&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=facebook&amp;fbclid=IwY2xjawRd-UZleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFjbW5lZTd3VU9JTFhON2VEc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHu-xjN61D6JzJTmHBQ0ykIsqZYNdMJ9zhQcVUoebtlJycE6cdPSzgEe4g1dX_aem_nVVdaFW6dm7kBugY2-MohQ\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Special Projects<\/a> category. The awards, which honor outstanding projects and individuals in Houston&#8217;s commercial real estate industry, were announced last week at Uptown&#8217;s Amegy Tower.<\/p>\n<p>Completed in 18 months, the $156 million project converted a 1960s-era warehouse facility into a 165,000-square-foot terminal building\u2014turning loading bays into large windows\u2014and a seven-story parking garage made of precast concrete. It also earned a LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council by reusing roughly 85 percent of the existing structural elements and incorporating other sustainability features such as limited outdoor lighting and indoor water usage.<\/p>\n<p>According to the port, the new terminal is designed to handle 17,000 passengers and crew members on cruise days.
