<\/p>\nMirra Andreeva\u2019s run to the Madrid Open semi-finals included a moment she\u2019ll want to forget.<\/p>\n
After letting a 5-1 lead slip away in the third set against Anna Bondar during the fourth round, Andreeva yelled towards Conchita Martinez and her team.<\/p>\n

She shouted: \u201cI\u2019m not a champion, I\u2019m not a champion. I will lose. I will lose. I choke.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although she managed to pull through that match and later defeated Leylah Fernandez in the quarter-finals, attention turned to how Martinez viewed her emotional reaction.<\/p>\n

Appearing as a guest on \u2018Game Set Madrid\u2018, Martinez was asked how she deals with Andreeva\u2019s meltdowns.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very difficult,\u201d she said (translated from Spanish).<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really complicated.<\/p>\n
\u201cLook, from the box, before these situations happen, what we\u2019re trying to do is make these happen less, to create opportunities to make it less explosive on the court.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s genuine, and that\u2019s how it is.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re just trying to make her believe in herself.<\/p>\n
Andreeva certainly tested Martinez\u2019s patience in the third round!<\/p>\n
\u201cYou say, \u2018What do you want me to say?\u2019, I think I even yelled at her yesterday,\u201d Martinez admitted.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes I\u2019ve thought about sending her a kiss to make her laugh, I don\u2019t know, but it\u2019s about getting her out of it.<\/p>\n
Mirra Andreeva remains Madrid Open favourite despite outburst<\/p>\n
Fortunately for Andreeva, her talent far outweighs any concerns about her temperament.<\/p>\n
After surviving Bondar in the fourth round, she then beat Fernandez in straight sets to reach her first Madrid Open semi-final.<\/p>\n

Andreeva is now the favourite to win the title as the highest seed left in the draw.<\/p>\n

She has faced Hailey Baptiste once before, at Wimbledon last year, winning comfortably in straight sets.<\/p>\n
Andreeva will aim to improve that record to 2-0, but would be wise not to underestimate the American.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old has already beaten two top-10 players in Madrid: Jasmine Paolini and Aryna Sabalenka.<\/p>\n
If Andreeva ends Baptiste\u2019s strong run, she would face either Anastasia Potapova or Marta Kostyuk in the final.<\/p>\n

Andreeva lost her only meeting with Kostyuk at January\u2019s Brisbane International, but leads Potapova 3-1 head-to-head.<\/p>\n
With Kostyuk unbeaten on clay this year and Potapova entering as a lucky loser, it is clear who Andreeva would prefer in the final.<\/p>\n
But first, her focus will be on Thursday\u2019s semi-final against Baptiste on April 30.<\/p>\n
