{"id":617892,"date":"2026-05-01T20:05:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T20:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/617892\/"},"modified":"2026-05-01T20:05:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-01T20:05:13","slug":"fatal-use-of-force-incident-in-northern-minnesota-under-investigation-by-the-minnesota-bca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/617892\/","title":{"rendered":"Fatal use-of-force incident in northern Minnesota under investigation by the Minnesota BCA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An officer-involved shooting is under investigation after a fatal incident involving Virginia Police in Northern Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Virginia Police Department, they had recieved a call around 8:20 a.m. that a man wearing a ski mask was walking back and forth on 2nd Avenue South in the City of Virginia while waving a handgun around.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia Police said responding officers found a man who was walking on the sidewalk with what \u201cappeared to be a handgun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officers reportedly ordered the man to drop what he had in his hand, which he allegedly refused to do.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the man then pointed \u201cwhat appeared to be a handgun\u201d towards officers, resulting in an officer firing their gun at the man, shooting him.<\/p>\n<p>The man was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n<p>No officers were injured in the incident, and all police members involved in the incident have been placed on critical incident leave as part of standard procedure for officer-involved shootings. <\/p>\n<p>Virginia police have not confirmed at this time if the man had been holding a gun, as officers had suspected.<\/p>\n<p>Officers involved in the incident were wearing body cameras. <\/p>\n<p>The BCA says its agents and crime scene personnel are investigating the incident.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BCA agents and crime scene personnel are investigating a use-of-force incident in Virginia. <\/p>\n<p>More information will be made available after the preliminary investigation is complete.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Minnesota BCA (@MnDPS_BCA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MnDPS_BCA\/status\/2050230593833533649?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">May 1, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>5 EYEWITNESS NEWS is working to confirm additional details.<\/p>\n<p>This is a breaking news story.
