Josh Stein signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncleg.gov\/BillLookup\/2025\/H696\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">House Bill 696<\/a> into law, providing nearly $320 million to help cover rising health care costs and increase enrollment in the Medicaid program.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wlos.com\/news\/local\/rural-north-carolina-healthcare-access-issues-medicaid-funding-affordable-care-act-lawmakers-governor-josh-stein-mahec-health-center-providers-hurricane-helene-medications-transportation-economics-insurance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">RURAL AREAS IN NC HIT HARDEST BY HEALTHCARE ACCESS ISSUES AMID MEDICAID FUNDING CONCERNS<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Stein said the bill also protects coverage for more than 725,000 North Carolinians who benefit from Medicaid expansion.<\/p>\n<p>State health officials said the funding is enough to keep the program running through the end of June.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wlos.com\/news\/local\/kids-over-corporations-rally-north-carolina-teacher-pay-education-funding-buncombe-county-schools-asheville-city-raleigh-classes-canceled-josh-stein-state-budget-fiscal-general-assembly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">HUNDREDS OF WNC TEACHERS HEAD TO &#8216;KIDS OVER CORPORATIONS&#8217; RALLY IN RALEIGH<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The bill includes several policy changes, such as shifting eligibility checks from quarterly to monthly and tightening documentation requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Comment with Bubbles<\/p>\n<p>JOIN THE CONVERSATION (2)<\/p>\n<p>Currently, more than 1 in 4 North Carolinians use Medicaid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"RALEIGH, N.C.
