Buffalo jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the opening frame, and though Pastrnak again found the net to cut the deficit, Boston’s offense ultimately stalled against Alex Lyon. It was a recurring theme for the B’s, who managed more than two goals just twice in the series and were held to a single goal or fewer in all three home contests.

Though Boston exceeded expectations in Marco Sturm’s first season behind the bench, it comes to an end at the hands of the Atlantic Division champions Buffalo, who win their first playoff series since 2007.

The Bruins now head into the offseason facing familiar questions about their offensive depth. While the team showed progress under Sturm, the inability of secondary scoring proved fatal against a disciplined Buffalo defense, ending a promising campaign with a first-round exit.

Check out the highlights from Friday night as the Sabres moved onto the second round.

Bruins vs. Sabres score 123FSabres2024Bruins0101Bruins vs. Sabres live updates, highlights from Game 6Final: Sabres 4, Bruins 1

10:14 p.m.: The Bruins season has come to an end as the Buffalo Sabres win the series in six games.

It’s a 4-1 defeat at TD Garden, where the Bruins did not score more than one goal in any of the three games.
