A doctor in the U.K. has been removed from the medical register after a tribunal found he charged cancer patients thousands of pounds for unproven treatments, including injections of garlic oil, according to several reports.<\/p>\n
Dr. Mohsen Ali was removed from the register following findings that he ran an unlicensed clinic and falsely claimed he could cure cancer, according to proceedings from the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS<\/a>) and reporting from the BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n Ali, who had previously held a medical license in the U.K. until it was withdrawn in 2015, treated two cancer patients in 2018, despite no longer being licensed to practice, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n The General Medical Council<\/a> lists Ali as “erased” from the medical register following an April 2026 tribunal decision, though the removal is pending an appeal. Sign up for PEOPLE’s free True Crime newsletter<\/a> for breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases.\u00a0<\/p>\n Ali claimed he could cure both patients\u2019 cancer with a \u201c90% success rate,\u201d charging up to \u00a315,000 (about $20,400) in one case and between \u00a310,000 and \u00a312,000 (approximately $13,600 to $16,300) in another, according to the BBC, which reported on the tribunal findings.<\/p>\n Hearing evidence indicated that Ali administered intravenous vitamin C and garlic oil, along with oxygenated water, sodium bicarbonate and ozone therapy, which an expert witness said were not supported by any clinical evidence as cancer treatments.<\/p>\n The tribunal determined that Ali was aware the treatments were not evidence-based and described his conduct as \u201cdishonest,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n One patient, identified as Patient A, had stage three prostate cancer and was told by Ali that his condition was \u201ceasy to cure.\u201d Ali \u201claughed\u201d during a phone call and suggested he would refund the money if the treatment did not work, The Independent<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n Patient A had previously been advised by medical professionals that surgery was the most effective option, but sought alternatives due to concerns about side effects.<\/p>\n The treatments were carried out at Ali\u2019s semi-detached home in Leicester, which was described by investigators and witnesses as unsanitary and unsuitable for clinical care, the news outlet reported.<\/p>\n A Public Health England inspection found \u201cvisibly contaminated\u201d surfaces, reused medical equipment and conditions described as \u201cdirty and unhygienic,\u201d with little separation between the home and treatment areas, according to the BBC.<\/p>\n Investigators also found non-sterile containers and other concerning conditions, including a \u201cdecaying\u201d mattress in the garden, both outlets reported.<\/p>\n
