Former \u201cParks and Recreation\u201d star Adam Scott<\/a> said America lost its \u201cinnocence\u201d after President\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0began his campaign in 2015 and questioned whether his series could be made today.<\/p>\n

While promoting his new film \u201cHokum,\u201d Scott spoke to Variety on Thursday about his role on the\u00a0sitcom, which focused on the Parks and Recreation Department of a fictional small town. <\/p>\n

The series ran for seven seasons and aired between 2009\u20132015, ending before the 2016 presidential election.<\/p>\n

Looking back on the series, Scott remarked that the U.S. has lost a lot of \u201cwhat was left of its innocence\u201d since the show ended.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think back on \u2018Parks and Rec\u2019 and the hope and joy that it brings people,\u201d\u00a0Scott told Variety<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so lovely to hear from people that it helped them through the pandemic or helps them through trying times now. And it is a dark time right now. And I do feel like our country may have lost what was left of its innocence in 2015, when Donald Trump stepped up and stepped into politics. And it\u2019s easy to forget just how much our country has changed in the last 10 or 11 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite his comment, Scott maintained that there\u2019s \u201calways an audience\u201d for upbeat sitcoms and pointed to the ongoing ABC sitcom \u201cAbbott Elementary\u201d as an example.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut as far as whether it could kind of survive or how it would sit in the now if it started now: Certainly, it would be different,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n

Fox News Digital\u00a0reached out to the White House for comment.<\/p>\n

Scott\u2019s former co-star\u00a0Nick Offerman<\/a> previously criticized people\u00a0in 2025 who suggested that his character, Ron Swanson, would have voted for Trump in 2016.<\/p>\n

\u201cDumb people insist that Ron Swanson would\u2019ve voted for Trump. And I don\u2019t deign to answer myself. I take it to Mike Schur, the main creator of Ron, and he said, \u2018Swanson would\u2019ve despised Trump, because Ron loved capitalism. And Trump made the stupidest move you could make as a capitalist, which is to go into public service,\u2019\u201d Offerman said.<\/p>\n
