{"id":61937,"date":"2025-08-06T06:03:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T06:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/61937\/"},"modified":"2025-08-06T06:03:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T06:03:09","slug":"john-isner-says-which-tournament-was-better-out-of-toronto-and-montreal-after-playing-both-multiple-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/61937\/","title":{"rendered":"John Isner says which tournament was better out of Toronto and Montreal after playing both multiple times"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The 2025 Canadian Open has been an intriguing tournament, as several players aim to win the title in the absence of the world\u2019s number one and two.<\/p>\n<p>In the aftermath of their Wimbledon final, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/opinion\/jannik-sinner-and-novak-djokovic-have-just-handed-the-rest-of-the-atp-tour-a-big-opportunity\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the 2025 Canadian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They were joined in withdrawing by four-time champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Novak Djokovic<\/a>, who doesn\u2019t plan on returning to the court until the US Open.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"631\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2223968969-1-1024x631.jpg\" alt=\"Novak Djokovic reacts during his defeat to Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon in 2025\" class=\"wp-image-111073\" \/>Photo by Rob Newell \u2013 CameraSport via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>In their absence, several players have taken advantage, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/alexander-zverev\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alexander Zverev<\/a> and Karen Khachanov, who both advanced to their first Masters 1000 semifinals of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Only time will tell if either player, or the remaining quarterfinalists, Alex de Minaur, Ben Shelton, Andrey Rublev, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/taylor-fritz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Taylor Fritz<\/a>, can win the title, but it will certainly be interesting to see who prevails in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>A lot has been made of the court conditions in Toronto this year, with players comparing them to those in Montreal, as the event switches locations annually.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the two locations, former ATP star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/john-isner\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Isner<\/a> has revealed whether he preferred playing the Canadian Open in Montreal or Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>John Isner \u2018liked\u2019 how they switched between two locations but \u2018preferred\u2019 Montreal<\/p>\n<p>During the latest episode of \u2018Nothing Major\u2019, Isner shared his thoughts on the two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/canadian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canadian Open<\/a> locations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like how they do it. It\u2019s a different look every year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI personally preferred Montreal. The city in my mind, I preferred it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought the atmosphere on site, there were crazy tennis fans there in a good way. But both tournaments were very solid, and I always enjoyed going up there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I enjoyed the back and forth of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"688\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-1234662774-1024x688.jpg\" alt=\"John Isner looks on during the 2021 Canadian Open\" class=\"wp-image-117663\" \/>Photo by Vaughn Ridley\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Isner\u2019s co-host, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jack-sock\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jack Sock<\/a>, then weighed in with his thoughts, suggesting he preferred the tournament in Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI liked the city of Toronto better, so I preferred that one.
