{"id":619812,"date":"2026-05-02T19:47:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T19:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/619812\/"},"modified":"2026-05-02T19:47:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T19:47:08","slug":"oilers-connor-mcdavid-had-fracture-says-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/619812\/","title":{"rendered":"Oilers&#8217; Connor McDavid had fracture, says coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/teams\/edmonton-oilers\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"edmonton-oilers\" data-league=\"nhl\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> captain played through a fracture &#8220;around the foot, ankle area,&#8221; head coach Kris Knoblauch <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SportsnetSpec\/status\/2050617276018343939?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>McDavid was a game-time decision for Game 5 and 6 of the Oilers&#8217; first-round loss to the Anaheim Ducks, but wound up playing in both.<\/p>\n<p>Knoblauch added that McDavid was &#8220;playing through a lot pain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Art Ross Trophy winner as the league&#8217;s top points-getter was relatively quiet in the Oilers&#8217; six-game elimination at the hands of the Ducks, recording just one goal and five assists with a minus-eight.<\/p>\n<p>McDavid still played 23:32 per game.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not easy, guys playing through things,&#8221; McDavid said. &#8220;It sucks, really. But everyone does it and we needed to find a way to be better and we didn&#8217;t, I didn&#8217;t.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although he didn&#8217;t get into specifics, McDavid said the injury limited his mobility to a certain extent: &#8220;Change of direction, tough. Stops and starts, tough.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Teammate Jason Dickinson, who missed Game 2 and 3, battled a similar fracture, per Knoblauch.
