Stevie Nicks<\/a> is a legend in her own right; there\u2019s no question about that. In 2019, Nicks became the only woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, twice. Not to mention, as a rocker and a songwriter, she\u2019s left an undeniable impression on women in music today.<\/p>\n

In a 2019 interview with Rolling Stone<\/a>, the singer actually said she felt she got \u201clucky\u201d when it came to facing the issues other women have faced in the industry. She also admitted that having another girl [keyboardist Christine McVie] in Fleetwood Mac helped her to have a better experience.<\/p>\n

Nicks even told Rolling Stone, \u201cChristine and I made a pact the day I joined Fleetwood Mac.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe and I said, \u2018We will never be treated like second-class citizens. We will never be not allowed to hang out in a room full of intelligent, crazy rock and roll stars, because we\u2019re just as crazy and just as intelligent as they are,\u2019\u201d Nicks recalled. \u201cWe just made that promise to each other that we would do everything we could do for women, that we would fight for everything that we wanted and get it. That our songs and our music would be equally as good as all the men surrounding us. And it was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Being the lead female singer in a band of mostly guys was never going to be easy. However, this precedent Nicks set with McVie at the beginning likely helped a lot.<\/p>\n

Nicks\u2019 Tribute to McVie Following Her Death<\/p>\n

Now a titan of the industry, it\u2019s hard to imagine a time when Nicks wasn\u2019t our role model. But next to every Stevie Nicks, it seems, there\u2019s also a Christine McVie.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I had been the only girl in Fleetwood Mac, it would have been very different,\u201d Nicks told Rolling Stone. \u201cSo I\u2019m really glad I joined a band that happened to have another woman in it.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cAt the beginning people said, \u2018Does Christine\u00a0want\u00a0another girl in the band?\u2019 And I said, \u2018I\u00a0hope\u00a0she does. When she meets me, I hope she likes me.\u2019 She\u00a0did\u00a0really like me \u2014 we got Mexican food, and we laughed and looked at each other and went, \u2018This is going to be great.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2022, McVie passed away following an ischemic stroke, much to the dismay of her former Fleetwood Mac band members.<\/p>\n

In a letter posted to social media following McVie\u2019s passing, Nicks quoted Haim\u2019s song \u201cHallelujah\u201d. The song sings about losing a close friend. Nicks also affectionately referred to McVie as her \u201cbest friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rock legend said goodbye to McVie at the end of her tribute. \u201cSee you on the other side, my love,\u201d she wrote. \u201cDon\u2019t forget me.\u201d<\/p>\n
