Ben Stiller<\/a> is in awe of how fast \u201cThe Bear<\/a>\u201d is shot. The \u201cSeverance<\/a>\u201d director and executive producer\u00a0pointed to how \u201cThe Bear\u201d has churned out four seasons across three years; \u201cSeverance\u201d meanwhile took that same amount of time to make just a second season. Production on \u201cSeverance\u201d Season 2 began way back in 2022, the same year that \u201cThe Bear\u201d debuted. (\u201cThe Bear\u201d is now set for Season 5<\/a>, while \u201cSeverance\u201d was announced<\/a> for Season 3.)<\/p>\n

Stiller cited how he would prefer to work as \u201cThe Bear\u201d co-showrunner Christopher Storer does, or at least with the same speed. \u201cChris Storer\u00a0will shoot an episode in an hour and a half or something on\u00a0\u2018The Bear.\u2019\u00a0I\u2019m like, \u2018Goddamn, why can\u2019t I do that?’\u201d Stiller told Vanity Fair<\/a>. <\/p>\n

As for the years between Seasons 1 and 2, Stiller added, \u201cOn a certain level, it\u2019s just the affirmation of when you follow your instinct \u2014 knowing that you have to make sure something feels right, and that you get it to the place you need it to be. The frustration for us was that it was taking so long, honestly. Sometimes I look at the outside factors, which are beyond our control, but then also \u2014 I mean I won\u2019t lie, I look at my own process too and go, \u2018What is it?’\u201d <\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cThat\u2019s the conundrum when you\u2019re in it. You start to feel like, \u2018Oh, wait a minute. It\u2019s going to take this much longer,\u2019 and then there\u2019s going to be that much more pressure on it for people who will be saying, like, \u2018Oh, we waited this long. I hope it\u2019s worth the wait.\u2019 You\u2019re just kind of stuck with that, and you have to move forward blindly.\u201d <\/p>\n

Stiller\u00a0did previously say during Jason and Travis Kelce\u2019s \u201cNew Heights\u201d podcast \u201cSeverance\u201d Season 3 will not take three years to make<\/a>. \u201cNo, the plan is not to [wait three years],\u201d Stiller said ahead of the\u00a0Season 2 finale<\/a>. \u201cHopefully we\u2019ll be announcing what the plan is very soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stiller added that three years between Seasons 1 and 2 allowed for the team to \u201cregroup\u201d about the series. Season 2 was shot for 186 days, with the editing taking even longer. \u201cThank goodness the audience was there when we came back,\u201d Stiller said. \u201cThe challenge was to get people who hadn\u2019t seen the show to watch the first season, so Apple did a really good job of getting the word out and we did as much press as we could. Also, three years later, Apple TV<\/a>+ is actually a different\u2026it\u2019s a different situation there now because they have more viewers. When we started out,\u00a0we were one of the first shows<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n

And Storer isn\u2019t the only other TV creator whom Stiller counts as an inspiration: Mike White, who directed Stiller in \u201cBrad\u2019s Status,\u201d and \u201cAndor\u201d creator Tony Gilroy are among his favorite fellow filmmakers in the TV space.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Mike is a genius,\u201d Stiller told VF of White. \u201cLiterally no one else could do what he does; he created a genre with\u00a0\u2018White Lotus.\u2019 How he does it blows my mind, because he does the writing by himself and the directing.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ben Stiller is in awe of how fast \u201cThe Bear\u201d is shot.
