The complete payment schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">May 2026 is now underway &#8211; and the U.S.\u2019s Social Security Administration (SSA) has kicked off this month\u2019s payment schedule, with millions of recipients due to collect their latest benefits last Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">However, millions more SSA beneficiaries must wait <a href=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/bad-news-for-social-security-recipients-this-is-the-reason-why-payments-go-out-later-in-may-f202604-n\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/bad-news-for-social-security-recipients-this-is-the-reason-why-payments-go-out-later-in-may-f202604-n\/\">until at least mid-May<\/a> to receive their money.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Here\u2019s what you need to know about the SSA\u2019s May <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2026.pdf\">distribution timeline<\/a>, both for Social Security benefits (retirement, disability or survivor pay) and for the Supplemental Security Income scheme (SSI):<\/p>\n<p>Who has the Social Security Administration already paid for May?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">On Friday, May 1, three groups of beneficiaries <a href=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/social-security-is-paid-out-on-friday-may-1-2026-who-gets-benefits-tomorrow-f202604-n\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/social-security-is-paid-out-on-friday-may-1-2026-who-gets-benefits-tomorrow-f202604-n\/\">were scheduled<\/a> to receive their latest monthly payment:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A benefit with just over 7.3 million recipients in the U.S., SSI is paid out on the first day of each month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Aimed at certain low-income individuals, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/ssi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/ssi\">SSI<\/a> is separate from Social Security. Both programs are operated by the SSA, but SSI differs as it is purely needs-based: eligibility does not depend on a claimant\u2019s work record.<\/p>\n<p>Certain long-term Social Security beneficiaries<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">May 1 was this month\u2019s Social Security distribution date for recipients who began claiming before May 1997.
