An upcoming PvP Assassin\u2019s Creed with the codename \u201cInvictus\u201d has been rumored to be in the pipeline for years. Youtuber Jonathan, who has shared accurate leaks in the past, now claims<\/a> to have been told about a private playtest for the spin-off held last month. The results, they claim, aren\u2019t so great, leading to speculation that the negative feedback could imperil the game\u2019s ongoing development as Ubisoft cuts projects right and left.<\/p>\n

The alleged leaks compare Assassin\u2019s Creed Invictus to Mediatonic\u2019s slapstick mega-hit Fall Guys. Given the codename and the team behind it, For Honor\u2019s Ubisoft Montreal, it should be assumed this translates to a series of Olympian-inspired qualification challenges with Creed\u2019s signature parkour bonafides. Not so much zany jelly-beaned proportioned Alta\u00efr\u2019s being pancaked by giant mallets.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was told it was really fucking awful,\u201d posted Assassin\u2019s Creed streamer j0nathan (via GameRant<\/a>). \u201cIt\u2019s supposed to come out by the end of the year, but there\u2019s a good chance it\u2019ll get delayed or even canceled.\u201d The streamer attached a screenshot<\/a> from an Ubisoft playtest email to add some legitimacy.<\/p>\n

Projects in peril have become the norm at Ubisoft. While Assassin\u2019s Creed Shadows was a much-needed hit and the recently revealed Black Flag remake is looking sharp<\/a>, its witch trials-set sequel Hexe is experiencing behind-the-scenes turmoil after director Clint Hocking departed the company<\/a>. A Reconstruction era Assassin\u2019s Creed sequel was reportedly canceled by Ubisoft heads<\/a> after reactionary backlash to Shadow\u2019s leads and the American \u201cpolitical climate,\u201d which further disappointed fans. The massive company is currently in the midst of a multi-year restructuring program<\/a> that\u2019s led to multiple rounds of layoffs and studio closures.<\/p>\n

While multiplayer games have never been more scrutinized than now<\/a>, it\u2019s a shame to hear that Invictus could be DOA. Often simmering behind Ubisoft\u2019s flagship projects, multiplayer-focused games like For Honor and Rainbow Six Siege have been highlights in the publisher\u2019s history. Many players still take a shine to the cat and mouse PvP multiplayer modes introduced in 2010\u2019s Brotherhood.<\/p>\n
