\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThe Covington Police Department says that a 13-year-old who was shot last week at an apartment in the city’s Eastside neighborhood has died.Officers say that the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head in the 100 block of East 11th Street on the night of April 24.The juvenile was then hospitalized for several days in critical condition prior to his death.Covington police say that they will not be publicly releasing the identity of the teen due to his age.Last Sunday, police announced that 18-year-old Ryan Cupp of Independence had been arrested and charged with first-degree assault in connection with the shooting.During his arraignment, Cupp was said by his defense attorney to be a senior at Simon Kenton High School.In court documents from the incident that were viewed by WLWT, multiple witnesses recounted to police that they saw Cupp and the victim “playing” with guns prior to the shooting. As they were doing so, witnesses say that Cupp at one point proceeded to aim a gun at the victim’s head and pull its trigger, causing it to fire and strike the juvenile. Cupp then proceeded to flee the scene, where he remained at large from police for two days before turning himself in to officers.The gun allegedly used in the shooting was later said to have been found by officers in the backyard of the apartment.During his arraignment on Monday, Cupp’s defense attorney called the incident “an accident” and described the victim as being “like a little brother” to his client.As a result of the teen’s death, Covington police say that they will recommended to prosecutors that Cupp’s charges be upgraded ahead of a court hearing that is scheduled for Wednesday.\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n
