Mark Gerhard and Leslie Benzies, the two co-CEOs of Build a Rocket Boy, recently decided to take some time out of their busy schedules, which usually consists of telling people they\u2019re redundant via LinkedIn posts and allegedly using spyware to snoop on their employees<\/a>, to \u201cvibe-code\u201d some new \u201cin-game voice assistant\u201d for MindsEye.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Well, technically, ElevenLabs and the BARB co-CEOs actually helped vibe-code some nonsense for Arcadia, which is a \u201cunique feature\u201d within MindsEye. And by \u201cunique feature,\u201d I mean user-generated content. The AI-coded feature they managed to create<\/a>\u2013and by \u201cthey\u201d I mean the AI\u2013was \u201cArcadia Voice,\u201d which is just\u2026 voice control. Did they really need an AI\u2019s help for this? Congratulations, though, fellas, because now MindsEye can do something the Xbox Kinect could do back in 2010.<\/p>\n

I vibe-coded a AAA game with the creator of GTA, the former CEO of Runescape (@laughivore<\/a>), and their game studio\u2019s Head of AI (@willgdjones<\/a>).<\/p>\n

However, there is one extremely impressive thing about ElevenLab\u2019s video; it\u2019s so unanimously hated that even the MindsEye community<\/a> on Discord thinks it\u2019s cringe. These are folks who actively enjoy the game MindsEye, by the way, so if they think this sucks, I think we may have truly reached the bottom of the barrel with this one.<\/p>\n

In fact, the reaction from the 20 people who do still play the game was so terrible that Build a Rocket Boy\u2019s new Head of AI, Will Jones, posted a lengthy statement on X in an attempt to quell the upset.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that these will never replace the craft of developers, designers, artists, QA, or performers who care about what they are building (in fact, the coding agent is only useful because of the powerful system and beautiful assets already made by our colleagues),\u201d reads part of Jones\u2019 X<\/a> post. \u201cGames are creative, collaborative, and deeply human.\u201d<\/p>\n

Funnily enough, Jones also noted later in the statement that he is \u201cnew to game development,\u201d due to the fact that Build a Rocket Boy is the first job he\u2019s had in the gaming industry. However, I\u2019d argue that Jones isn\u2019t new to game development at all. In actuality, he\u2019s new to asking an AI to develop video games for him. It would sort of be like if I said I\u2019d got a new job in the culinary arts, because I\u2019d just microwaved my very first ready meal.<\/p>\n
