Michael Carrick played down his decision to substitute Bruno Fernandes in the final minutes of Manchester United’s win against Liverpool<\/a>, insisting it was down to wanting to bring Leny Yoro on.<\/p>\n Fernandes had limped away from a challenge late in the first half at Old Trafford<\/a> but played on until stoppage time to see his side to a thrilling 3-2 win that secured their return to the Champions League<\/a>.<\/p>\n He didn’t grab a record-equalling 20th assist of the season but was only denied that accolade by Freddie Woodman touching his header on to Benjamin Sesko.<\/p>\n Click here<\/a> to find out the latest Manchester United news in our daily newsletter<\/p>\n Despite the absence of a goal or assist, it was another outstanding performance from Fernandes, who has been an almost ever-present under Carrick.
