Golf Channel Podcast with Rex and Lav<\/a>, Ryan Lavner made it very clear that he wasn\u2019t impressed at all with the Cadillac Championship.<\/p>\n\u201cI wanted to talk about Doral, because you and I did a preview podcast in the middle of last week,\u201c Lavner said to Hoggard.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou and I were both looking forward to the tournament.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I\u2019ve got to admit, it was completely juiceless. There was no one out there, zero fans, zero buzz.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t quite know the reason.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know whether it\u2019s Signature Event fatigue, where you\u2019re going to have three in a four week span.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, on Saturday, you had temperatures in the 90s, you had some weather issues that rolled in early Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s the Trump factor, as well, not just because he\u2019s polarising. You also had a heavy security presence on Sunday for the final round, which, of course, was delayed because of weather issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome talk about the expensive tickets, $100 for a ticket on the weekend.<\/p>\n
\u201cI also think there is something to be said for big markets. And I understand the PGA Tour\u2019s viewpoint that you want to go to where the eyeballs are.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you go to these big markets, when you go to a Miami, when you go to a Denver, when you go to Chicago, New York City, a Boston, whatever the case may be, there\u2019s more to do there.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd there was a pretty big happening in South Florida over the past week with the Formula One Grand Prix in town as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the problem with the big market strategy, where you\u2019re not necessarily going to have that at the Harbour Towns or the Travelers\u2019 Championships of the world.<\/p>\n

They are totally fair comments from Lavner.<\/p>\n
However, one thing he didn\u2019t mention was the fact that runaway leaders never really help with the excitement levels, unless the man in front is a superstar like Tiger Woods.<\/p>\n
Perhaps that was one of the main reasons why the tournament failed to get the fans\u2019 juices flowing.<\/p>\n
The crowds throughout the week in Miami will have concerned the PGA Tour hierarchy.<\/p>\n
Perhaps they need to look at their pricing structure for the Signature Events.<\/p>\n
And it\u2019s very clear to see that the schedule needs to be addressed with more space between the very biggest events.<\/p>\n
