{"id":623144,"date":"2026-05-04T15:48:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T15:48:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/623144\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T15:48:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T15:48:07","slug":"brian-schottenheimer-on-the-rookies-none-of-these-guys-are-in-great-shape-right-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/623144\/","title":{"rendered":"Brian Schottenheimer on the rookies: &#8220;None of these guys are in great shape right now&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As rookies throughout the NFL get their first taste of pro football, some of them will be getting a second taste of their most recent meals.<\/p>\n<p>Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer made it clear during the team\u2019s rookie minicamp that the new players are struggling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dallascowboys.com\/video\/brian-schottenheimer-he-is-what-we-thought\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">None of these guys are in great shape right now<\/a>,\u201d Schottenheimer told reporters. \u201cYou might have saw a few guys getting sick yesterday. A little bit of vomiting going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not a surprise. After football season ended, most of them spent time not doing football conditioning but preparing for the specific drills of the Scouting Combine and the Pro Day workout. Many of them spent the weeks before the draft flying around to various team facilities for visits. (Schottenheimer mentioned that first-rounder Malachi Lawrence visited 16 or 17 teams.)<\/p>\n<p>When the rookie minicamp rolls around, they all get thrown into the fray. And even if it\u2019s not full pads, it\u2019s football practice. For guys who haven\u2019t practiced any football in months.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also a way to get their attention before they get thrown into the mix of offseason workouts with the veterans. The culture shock doesn\u2019t happen in September.
